LORDS of the DUNGEON

The P.A.’s are a PROGRESSIVE POST-PUNK band from Massachusetts. They are characterized by their raw energy, mystical and CRYPTIC affect, with lyrics that follow a concrete, brutal fantasy narrative.

The band started in 2020 as a two-piece noisy garage rock band. The culmination of this early stage can be found in the catchy punk songs and grating riffs of “Feed Us”. The second record, 2021’s “Bancroft’s Castle” saw the group add bass and elements from other genres, with longer jams and experimentations in harsh noise. 2022’s “Novo” brought more complex song structures, chronological in-depth lore, polished production, and a wider dynamic range, all setting the stage for 2023’s “Gevurah”, where the band would double down on the heaviness, while also weaving pieces of pop songwriting and arrangement.

The P.A.’s began playing local shows around Bancroft's Castle, working tirelessly to hone their high-energy live performance into the theatrical, improvisational and expressive whirlwind of synesthetic transcendence it has become. New England couldn’t contain them, so they spent the past few years raiding their way through the American Midwest and Mid-Atlantic. In their domain, they are found playing festivals, like the Lowell Town & City Festival, or New Haven’s Underground Experience. They can also be found opening for national and international touring acts like Hooveriii, Friend, Spencer Krug, and The Macks, or headlining SMALL clubs like Taffeta in Lowell, deep cuts in medford, or O’Briens in Allston.

They have had many lineups over the years, the latest consisting of ellis roundy on guitar, synthesizer and vocals, amber lawson on synthesizer, liam asselin on bass, and sam dvorin on drums.

The p.a.’s have just RELEASED “SCRYER”, AND RETURNED FROM THEIR TOUR OF THE MIDWEST, WITH PLANS TO RELEASE A STRING OF LIVE RECORDINGS IN THE NEXT FEW MONTHS.

On “SCRYER”

“SCRYER” follows the story of andras, a mercenary banished to walk the desert after their failure at the hands of sanguinax during the events of gevurah. while perishing in the desert, andras discovers a vast citadel, half-buried in the green sands of yarok midbar. they walk through the gates and into the structure, finding a throne room in the center of the castle. in the hand of the ruler, now a grotesque skeleton wrought with dry carrion and tattered gold linens, is an orb emitting a faint light. andras gazes upon the orb and begins transcending his reality. “scryer” examines the journey that andras takes through the orb, including mystic practice, psychic warfare, soul transmutation, and ascension to power.

PRESS QUOTES

“In a way, there’s making music and then there’s world building, which [The P.A.’s] are doing. And the music is a soundtrack for that world.”

Riley halliday, ug2msg — anti standard #34

“They’re one of the genre’s strongest emerging voices, and not checking The P.A's out would be a fatal mistake for any psych-rock fan.”

Chris jacob, Jawbone zine — HALBERD EP REVIEW

“So often, people playing noisy, psych-influenced heavy rock get weighed down by their noise and the songs get real slow. Me? I like it fast, and that’s why I like this.”

Robert newsome, bandcamp navigator — march 2022
